INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AT SLAIS
Computers are an essential part of your academic life at SLAIS. Some courses are offered online and SLAIS students use computers on a daily basis to research and write papers, converse with faculty and other students, search databases, use course-specific application software, create World Wide Web pages, and much more. As practicing information professionals in the workplace you will use software for such functions as database design, word processing, and both group and WWW presentations.
In support of the SLAIS mission and the direct instructional purposes of the School, SLAIS lab staff plan, implement, support, and promote information technology systems use. A number of electronic resources are available for student, faculty and staff use. Due to limited resources, SLAIS is unable to meet all of the computing needs that may be required by students in order to complete assignments. Students are encouraged to purchase or secure access to personal computers for use away from SLAIS. Labs that provide word processing and other basic applications are located elsewhere on campus. SLAIS students have access to resources provided by Arts Computing in the Buchanan building and to resources provided by the UBC Library (Internet) at various campus locations.
