2010/2011 Events
Afghanistan Library Initiative Presentation - Rahim Parwani
When: Monday, October 25, 2010; 12:30 - 1:30pm
Where: TBA
What: Rahim Parwani, the coordinator overseeing an inititiative to rebuild Kabul's public library, will be coming to SLAIS on October 25 to give a presentation on some of the background information that would give us a context for the Afghanistan Library Initiative and help us understand the situation in Afghanistan.
This is an initiative of the Canada Afghanistan Solidarity Committee. It is very much in the planning/ideas stage at the moment, but the plan is to draft a guide/manual/action plan for the rebuilding of the library. After developing the guide the idea is to find possible sources of funding and write some RFPs.

He will conclude by facilitating a broader discussion on community based ICTs for local development and community empowerment as they are currently being applied in Canada and internationally.
Dr. Gurstein's talk is presented by SLAIS and the Librarians Without Borders (LWB) student group. Light refreshments will be served.
