1) Approval of
minutes from previous meeting:
Approved by Rachel Balko, seconded by Judi Saltman.
2) BCLA report:
Shawna on behalf of Fiona Chiu
-working on organizing a talk with Marjorie Mitchell (Learning services
librarian at UBC Okanagan; former pres of BCLA). Oct. 18th talk---let
her know if that date works or doesn’t work for you.
-Leanna Jantzi, editor of BCLA Browser (which used to be BCLA Reporter,
a hard copy) is looking for submissions for update on BCLA at UBC.
-BCLA Mentorship Working Group has been formed, getting together in
November as to how the group can help current students. This Working
Group was very successful for many years, and has now resumed. Students
get mentor from a BC librarian from any type of library they
specify--excellent for insights into the professional fields that
interest you.
3) CLA report:
Shawna
-she has been formally added to CLA listserv, will soon attend meetings
by teleconference. One of the SLAIS students (Leah Hopton) had chance
to attend CLA conference in June and said it was excellent. Explanation
from Judith: CLA virtual networks rather than interest groups exist now.
4) ALPS Report: Cynthia
- helping to organize annual event: Getting Hired in Higher
Education---panel of newish librarians who are academic librarians
interested in public services--they speak to you about insider info on
academic librarianship. Cynthia soliciting questions: Wed. Oct. 5th
from 12 to 1pm.
5) YAACS report: Rachel
Balko
-lots of events taking place--stay tuned for the YAACS meeting to find
out!
6) Treasurer
Report: Cynthia
- we have $130.00 in our account. But can confirm our funds. We may
also have an additional $50.00 from LASSA.
7) Old business:
2010-2011 year end review. It is in googledoc--compiled what happened
that year, and will be printed and placed in BCLA binder.
8) New business:
-elections: open positions include:
tour coordinator: no takers yet.
communications/website officer: monitor gmail account; write,
edit, and design special brochures for special events. work with other
exec to support student chapter for promo of events. assisting in
promotion of positions, update the website, post minutes. ---motion
carried and passed for communications and website---Anna Babluck
volunteered, nominated by (??); passed by Shawna Kristin.
secretary: take minutes, and update the student binder.

-positions that will be vacant in December: YAACS co-rep, CLA rep, BCLA
rep, ALPS rep, treasurer, tour coordinator
