BCLA/CLA Student Chapter Minutes

In attendance: Amy Ashmore, Leah Hopton, Ali Jones, Shawna Kristin, Sumanjit Manhas, Cynthia Ng, Naomi Schemm

1) Approval of Previous Minutes (October 13, 2010).
-Amy motions to approve, Sumanjit seconds.

2) Welcome and Introduction to BCLA/CLA.
-Cynthia chairs, provides an introduction and welcomes new and old members.

3) CLA Report / Communications and Website Report (Sumanjit)
-Leah Hopton will be the Re:Generations representative.
-No news and all is in order for communications and the website.

4) BCLA Report (Amy)
-Devon Greyson’s talk on Monday, Nov. 8 was a success.
-A BCLA information policy meeting will be held near the end of November. Students are welcome.  More details pending.
-Nov. 29: BCLA board meeting via teleconference. Mentorship program will be up for discussion. Send any questions to Amy.
-Nov. 15: LASSA-organized dinner for student group representatives. Amy will be attending; e-mail any input.
-A report of BCLA student activities for the BCLA Browser should be submitted by the end of December. Executives are asked to send reports to Amy for compilation.

5) ALPS Report (Naomi)
-ALPS meeting in the near future. When: Friday, Dec. 3, 9.00 a.m.-3.00 p.m.; IKBLC, Dodson Room.
-The theme is Bridging the Gap: Library Services for First Year Students.
-Student tour guides needed for informal lunch hour tours.
-November’s panel on ‘Getting Hired in Higher Education’ was well received and well attended.

6) Treasurer Report (Cynthia)
-Roughly $130 in treasury.
-Recent expenditures: $14.44 on a speaker gift for BCLA event (see above).
-LASSA treasurer difficulties have been resolved.

7) Old Business (Sumanjit)
-No old business.

8) New Business (Sumanjit)
-Profitability of cookbook fundraiser still uncertain.  
-Next steps for the cook book are: raise price of book, re-gauge student interest through Doodle poll and e-mail, find out if other student groups are interested in a joint fundraiser, assess the number of work hours that the project would require.
-A member is needed to speak to the January cohort on behalf of the BCLA student group. Amy willing to do so.

9) Date and time of next meeting
-Second week of January, exact date to be announced later.
-More cookbook discussion will be done through listserv
