CLA Student Chapter Meeting 

CLA/BCLA Meeting Minutes
June 4, 2002
4:30 – 5:30 pm

Present: Andrea Ryce, Megan Zandstra, Fabiano Rocha, Nicole Gjertsen, Reiko Tagami, Ellen George, Patricia Whittaker, Deborah Copeman, Paul Evans, Joanne Canow

1. SLAIS & BCLA

Look into appointing a librarian liaison between student chapter and BCLA. Ongoing: Andrea will be going to the BCLA Board Meeting in July and will discuss this possibility.
 

2. Tour suggestions

          VPL bindery
          Carnegie
          AIDS library
          Ironwood (Richmond Public Library)
          Hospital libraries

Canvas for ideas on CLA website: perhaps add a link where students can make suggestions for tour or ideas
 

3. Speaker suggestions

          Maryanne Epp – Special Needs Division, Langara College
          Paul Whitney – for discussion of Copyright issues
          Canadian Health network speaker
          First Nations Library speaker
 

4. Funding for speakers

There may be a possibility of applying for grant money from CLA. Megan will look into this when she goes to Ottawa in July. There is also $100 from LASSA available.
 

5. Scheduling for Fall meetings

Perhaps alternate between daytime and evening meetings so there is the chance for part-time students to attend. 
Possibilities:  Tues/Thurs lunchtime
Sat lunchtime
Tues 4:30 pm
Mon/Thurs evenings 

These are very rough suggestions as many people don’t know their timetables yet. More discussion to follow at next meeting.
