New SLAIS Faculty for 2006/2007 Academic Year

The School of Library, Archival and Information Studies is pleased to welcome faculty who will be joining the School for periods of 4 to10 months in the coming academic year, beginning September 2006. Jennifer Campbell-Meier, Lisa Hussey and Allison Taylor McBryde will be teaching core and elective courses in the MLIS program. Laura Millar will be a visiting professor at SLAIS for the Fall term, teaching in the MAS program.

Jennifer Campbell-Meier is a PhD candidate at the University of Hawaii, where she is examining the development of open access repositories at universities and colleges. She has an MLS and a BA from Indiana University and worked for 11 years in academic libraries. She is currently the Knowledge Management Coordinator for the School of Travel Industry Management at UH; her previous position was Electronic Resources Coordinator at Northern State University, South Dakota. Jennifer has taught courses in reference and information literacy in both classroom and online formats. While at SLAIS she will teach LIBR 503: Foundations of Information Sources and Services, LIBR 532: Science and Technology Information Sources and Services, and LIBR 530: Subject-Based Information Services.

Lisa Hussey has just successfully defended her PhD at the University of Missouri, where she is researching the motivations of ethnic minorities in choosing LIS as a career. She holds a BA from the University of Miami, an MA in Information Resources and Library Science from the University of Arizona, and a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Change from the University of Missouri. She has served as the Program Manager for the University of Arizona School of Information Resources and Library Science, and Librarian with the Arizona Department of Corrections and University High School, San Francisco. Lisa has taught courses in Management and Leadership at the University of Missouri and University of Arizona. This year she will teach LIBR 504: Management of Information Organizations, LIBR 571: Human Resources Management, and LIBR 574: Project Management in Information Organizations

Allison Taylor McBryde joins SLAIS while on leave from her position as Coordinator of Children’s and Young Adult’s Services at North Vancouver District Public Library. Allison holds a BA from the University of Lethbridge and an MLS from UBC. She has had over 25 years experience with children’s and youth services. During her professional career she has taught extensively in the classroom and online, for both UBC and San Jose State University. She will be teaching LIBR 501: Foundations of the Information Society and Information Organizations, LIBR 529: Services for Families and Early Literacy in the Preschool Years, and LIBR 521: Contemporary Literature and Other Materials for Children.

Laura Millar will be joining SLAIS as a visiting professor in Term 1 of the coming academic year. She received her MAS degree from the University of British Columbia in 1984 and her PhD in archival studies from the University of London in 1996. She is the author of a number of works on various topics in archives, publishing and distance education. Her research interests include the concept of recordkeeping and the relationship between information, knowledge and personal and social memory. She is also involved in the study of the relationship between human rights and recordkeeping around the world. She will be teaching ARST 575D: Issues in the Management of Current Records and ARST 573: Archival Systems and the Profession.
