Course
Goals : The goal of this course is to provide students with the basics of using
Macromedia’s Dreamweaver MX to create web
sites and web pages.

the end of the course, students will be able to:

LIBR 500, 560 OR ARST 593B [including basic knowledge
of HTML coding and image formats]. Must also be able to easily and without additional instruction use WS_FTP to move files from SLAIS FTP account to a SLAIS LAN account space, and also have the ability to move completed work to SLAIS FTP server.

Course
Assignments:
Students will design
a web site using the techniques covered during the
course. This web site will constitute 100% of course
mark.
The assignment will
be due by noon on March 17, 2006.
Completion of the assignment will require access
to Dreamweaver MX 2004. 30-day evaluation copies
may be downloaded from the l559fdownload FTP folder
once the course begins. Please
note: Since this is a limited 30-day copy
it should not be installed until
the course begins. Once the evaluation copy is installed
it cannot be re-installed on the same computer, nor
can another downloaded evaluation copy be installed
on that computer. Students may choose to download
the evaluation version of the entire Macromedia Studio
MX Suite.
The Dreamweaver
MX 2004 software will also be available in bothe SLAIS
IT Labs..
While the course
will be taught using the Windows version of Dreamweaver,
the Mac version can be used for the assignment and
the exercises in the workbook.
Attendance: The
Calendar states: “Regular attendance is expected
of students in all their classes (including lectures,
laboratories, tutorials, seminars, etc.). Students
who neglect their academic work and assignments may
be excluded from the final examinations. Students
who are unavoidably absent because of illness or
disability should report to their instructors on
return to classes.”
This is a two-day
course and attendance is mandatory for both days.
Failure to attend will result in failure.
Evaluation: Assignments
will not be accepted late unless prior arrangements
are made with me. Consideration will be given to legitimate
emergencies. If an extension is granted, a late penalty
may be imposed at the instructor's discretion; this
will be discussed when you request an extension. All assignments will be awarded letter grades using
the evaluative criteria given on the SLAIS web site: http://www.slais.ubc.ca/RESOURCES/slais-marking.htm.
