"Cataloging should be fun. And challenging.
And useful."

Sanford Berman, 1981
From the introduction to Joy of Cataloging

Abstract
For over thirty years, librarian Sanford Berman has been a passionate and outspoken advocate for reform to cataloging practices. This website, produced by four graduate students at UBC's School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, starts with an overview on Berman - his background, philosophy, career, and achievements. His crusade for reforms to both subject and descriptive cataloging is discussed in some depth. The site concludes with quotations from a variety of library professionals that demonstrate the differing attitudes towards this iconoclast. A resource list of publications by and about Sanford Berman is included.
