Project Background:

The Human Emotion Thesaurus (HET) is an online thesaurus being developed in tandem with a pilot project on human emotion. The project, which is being carried out by clinical researchers at the University of British Columbia, has received funding from the British Columbia Ministry of Health Services.

The HET is one of two components of the pilot project; it is designed to accompany and support the Human Emotion Database (HED), an information database on human emotion that will be augmented by researchers during the pilot phase of the project.

The Human Emotion Database is being developed as a browsable, searchable database of human emotion and will include information in the following formats:

Books
Newspaper articles
Pamphlets
Brochures
Encyclopaedia articles
Journal articles
Websites
Reports and papers
Educational material
Etc.

Once the HED is complete, this thesaurus will serve as an indexing and retrieval tool for ease of access to information contained in the database.

At this time, the thesaurus is being made available online as an easy ready reference source - the first of its kind - on basic terminology related to human emotion. It will continue to be enhanced as the project progresses.
