This thesaurus is the beginning module for the creation of a comprehensive Cheese Thesaurus for the patrons and staff of the Epicurean Cheese Shop. This module serves as an indexing and retrieval tool for information on world cheeses, in particular, the cheeses the store sells. In developing the thesaurus for the Epicurean Cheese Shop we need to consider a few things. First, the terminology must be at an appropriate level for a shopper of general education, but be flexible enough to accommodate a fairly high level of cheese connoisseur as the thesaurus develops. It is NOT a thesaurus on cheese making, however, and will not include such technical terms. At this stage of development, the thesaurus serves two main groups: the cheese shopper and the new employees of the business, both of whom will learn more about cheeses sold at the store. The thesaurus may go online for online purchasers. The staff will advise The Epicurean Librarians League of any new trends in enquiries or in cheese types that should be accommodated in later editions of the thesaurus. The search strings will be pre-coordinated by the indexers and post-coordinated by the users at the store (or online) to avoid a high number of false hits. |
