INTRODUCTION

This report outlines the first of several modules in the creation of the Consumer Egg Thesaurus (CET). This thesaurus will be used as an indexing and retrieval tool for information on:

    consumer knowledge of, and
    consumer experience with
    commercial chicken eggs in Nov Ovolando, Canata.

The Nov Ovolando Egg Marketing Board commissioned the CET for its newly established Consumer Education Centre. This report will present a CET prototype to the Marketing Board for feedback into developing an effective and user-oriented thesaurus design.

Important Definitions

Consumer
A lay member of the public (i.e., not an egg specialist, egg scientist, egg producer, etc.) that purchases or has the potential to purchase eggs.

Consumer knowledge
What the consumer perceives and knows about eggs. This includes:

    - egg information and misinformation
    - egg folklore
    - egg science, etc.

Consumer experience
How the consumer uses eggs and egg products. This includes:

    - recipes
    - non-cookery uses
    - non-food egg products
    - medical uses, etc.

Egg
Unless noted, egg is synonymous to commercially produced chicken eggs.
