A synopsis of librarians portrayed in some movies:

Black Mask:  Jet Li plays Tsui, a man who had his nerve center removed when he was a member of the 701 Squad, a military type unit.  During an operation events go wrong and he believes he is the only member of his squad that survives.  Therefore, he walks away from his military life to settle into an ordinary one working in a library.  He is awkward and shy at work, but does joke around with his friend, Rock, who is a policeman.  When events start to threaten his friend he takes action and dons a black mask in order to conceal his identity while he fights crime.  In order to protect his secret identity he pretends to be helpless in ordinary life.  However, when he puts on the black mask he is unlike any typical librarian.

Blade:  The librarian/archivist in this movie has a very brief appearance.  Pearl works in an archive that is accessed through the fridge at a nightclub.  She/he works for vampires.  Pearl is known as the record keeper and works surrounded by many computers.  Pearl is essentially a large blob, it is impossible to determine whether it is human or not, never mind whether it is female or male.

Desk Set:  Katharine Hepburn plays Miss Bunny Watson, head of reference at the Federal Broadcasting Company.  She and her female co-workers all dress very nicely, some sexily.  Bunny wears her hair pulled back, sometimes with a pencil stuck through it.  Each has an area of specialty, but all are very knowledgeable, able to answer many questions very quickly.  They are quite playful with each other, and let loose at the Christmas party, drinking and dancing.  Bunny is an extremely intelligent woman, knowing most answers right away, regardless of what topic they are on.  She has a college degree with a library course from Columbia.  The only reason she did not pursue a Ph.D. was that she ran out of money.  She does not want to be an old maid, and has been seeing the same man for seven years.  The reference librarians in this movie are worried about a gigantic computer taking over their jobs.  Although, they are told it is merely there to make their work easier.

Ghostbusters:  Alice is a librarian at the New York Public Library.  She is a middle-aged woman with gray hair, and wears a high necked blouse and a cardigan.  She is understandably scared by the unnatural phenomena inhabiting the library.  The librarian in charge, a man, is very uptight.  The ghost librarian tells the Ghostbusters to "shhh".

Goodbye, Columbus:  Neil Klugman is an assistant librarian working at the Public Library in the Bronx.  He lives with his Aunt Gladys and Uncle Mike.  He went to college as an English literature major, but quit to join the army, which he enjoyed.  After the army he started working at the library, which he does not really enjoy, but does until he can think of something better to do.  He dresses nicely and does not wear glasses.  He is forward, pushy, funny, and can be kind as witnessed when he goes out of his way for a young patron.

Major League:  Rene Russo plays Lynn Wells, a librarian in Cleveland who developed one of the United States' best special collection departments in a mere two years.  She has a Masters Degree.  She was an alternate on the Olympic team for the 200 meter individual medley, so she is obviously quite athletic.  While at work she wears glasses and sensible clothing with her hair pulled back.  However, when not at work she wears sexier clothes with her hair down.
