LIBR 523: Canadian Literature and Other Materials for Children (3) -- COURSE DESCRIPTION

[previously: LIBR 522D - Contemporary Canadian Children's Literature]

PREREQUISITES: LIBR 500, 501, 503

GOAL: The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and appreciation of Canadian children’s literature from the nineteenth century to the present required for the development of children’s collections and children’s reader’s advisory services.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Canadian children’s literature: its types, genres, formats, and content
  • Identify and discuss a national selection of authors, illustrators, and publishers
  • Discuss trends and issues in Canadian children’s literature
  • Discuss the development and current state of Canadian children’s literature
