ARST 610/LIBR 610: Theoretical and Research Foundations (6) -- COurse Description


Course Restrictions : Admission to the SLAIS Ph.D. program

Course Goal : The goal of this course is to equip students with the theoretical and methodological knowledge and skills necessary to undertake doctoral level research in general and to prepare a research proposal in particular.

Course Objectives

  • To provide students with an advanced understanding of the research process and research design
  • To expose students to various strategies and techniques of research inquiry in the social sciences and humanities
  • To provide students with the capacity to critically evaluate research in the specific field of library, archival, and information studies
  • To provide students with the skills necessary for the effective communication of research in oral presentations and in writing
  • To prepare students to undertake research for their dissertations
