CIELO Architecture worldwide from prehistory through medieval period from the image database of California State University Library.

Cities and Buildings Database
Over 10,000 images of cities and buildings throughout the world in a database developed at University of Washington.

Courtault Institute of Art Database of images of art and architecture. Use the Browse feature to click through topics in architecture, landscape architecture, and design.

Great Buildings Online Documents architecture and architects worldwide, with 3D models, images, architectural drawings, commentaries, bibliographies, and web links. Interface can be confusing, but worth exploring.

Grove Art Online
Essential resource covering all aspects of the visual arts worldwide with extensive description. 100,000 images of painting, sculpture, architecture and decorative arts.

SPIRO University of California Berkeley
Over 70,000 images of architecture, landscape architecture and urbanism from prehistory to the present. Thumbnail images available.

Society of Architectural Historians Image Exchange
A survey set of digital images of world architecture (prehistory - 1980s) collected by and for faculty teaching architecture history.

Art Images for College Teaching (AITC) Online image resource for ancient, medieval, renaissance, baroque, 18-20th century, and non-western art and architecture. The AICT website was created by Allan Kohl of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

Metropolitan Museum Timeline of Art History Database of images and text organized by historic period and geographic location. Excellent examples of architecture found in the Special Topic Categories pull down menus, such as Byzantine Art, Islamic Art, and Asian Art.

Kidder Smith Slide Archives on American Architecture MIT Library collection of 3400 Kodachrome slides documenting ten centuries of architecture in the United States. Photographed by G. E. Kidder Smith, architect, architectural photographer, and author of two major surveys of American architecture.

New York Public Library Picture Collection Online Over 30,000 digitized images from books, magazines and newspapers, original photographs, prints and postcards, mostly created before 1923. Primarily on subjects in American history.

Arcspace Browse for excellent images of contemporary architecture and descriptive text, organized by architect. Focus is on Western Europe and North America.

Fondation LeCorbusier Official site for the architect's work and provides access to his original works, notes, manuscripts and images of his many projects worldwide.

Structurae Database of images and descriptive texts on structural engineering, architecture and construction through history, and from around the world. Especially good resource for modern large-scale engineering projects such as dams, bridges, skyscrapers and stadiums.
